Get a rug made with olifin fibers. It is a synthetic man-made fiber that is soft, comes in tons of different colors, is inexpensive, and almost impossible to stain. I have three young children and did a lot of research before buying new carpeting for my home. So far, they have spilled red kool-aid on it, marked on it with an ink pen, and even dumped a soggy bowl of lucky charm cereal on it (which I didn’t find out about till it had dried). As of yet, nothing has been very difficult to remove. My carpets are berber style, I don’t know if this fiber is available in a pile.

wool is expensive- to buy and to clean and will hold stains more readily

Wool id the best for wear. Ir is not the easiest to clean. I do not know about price difference since I’ve always avoided wool because I have occasional animal messes to clean

Wool is for the long run. It is durable. You can wash it and wash it and wash it and wash itl Synthetic is for the hundred year long run, but it looks and feels like crap after the first month. So, you can have wool which lasts for a long time and lasts after washing after washing or you can pick a synthitic that also lasts for a long time but feels like crap and looks like crap and absorbs stains like crazy. Wool is expensive, synthitic is cheeeeeeep. I wouldn’t live with synthetic…if that is helpful.

Wool will probably cost you, depending on where you live.

Do not get wool as there can be an allergy to it.

Synthetic wins on the easy to clean and inexpensive requirements. As far as looking good, there are many synthetics that look good and are very durable. I would not get wool with toddlers.
