What flooring material would look best in my ranch style house in the country?
Our home is a fixer upper. It's a basement ranch, not a farmstead or anything like that, but I want to reflect a nostalgic farmhouse feel. I have some antiques, pictures and such.
My husband wants a stone look tile. I think it may be too Mediterranean.
Other flooring in the house is carpet and hardwood. There is hardwood in the dining room, but it wouldn't look good with the wood cabinets in my kitchen. My appliances are stainless. Cabinet hardware is antiqued bronze, looks almost black.
I have a few decorative items that are black and white.
I have been stuck on this for a while.
I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Go with the tile floor. Like a stone-look ceramic tile (real stone floors are either too glossy and slippery, or too porous and get dirty easy). Go with an 18-inch tile and have them installed at a 45-degree angle instead of straight. This makes a room look bigger and it’s a cool effect. Also, don’t worry about mixing woods so much (floor and cabinets). It’s not that big a deal and can actually be a good look, especially in a country style house.

I agree on the tile but for a country look I think the rustic stone look that has a scalloped edge is a much better country look. Putting it on a diagonal makes it look to modern or contemporary ( sorry Paul I usually agree with you but this time I dont). I think that type of tile and possible put on an offset pattern well make a more country look.

Use a ceramic tiles. We have them in our bathroom, entry way ,superb. They now have a form of Floor heating which started in Europe and came here. You install Pex tubing,it is warrantied I think 50 years.you can run it in any floors. It is best suited in concrete, stone, ceramic tile.Any form of heat can be used to heat the water running through the Pex Tubing, equipment is amazing ! The easiest ,quite economical is a Natural gas hot water heater sized to heat your home and water usage.it can be heated by wood ,coal stoves also.I forgot, they have options for flooring which also may work for you if you will explore them.Wood would be my last pick.
