As a professional carpet cleaner, I always suggest to my customers to purchase Nylon carpeting when shopping for carpet, and to take off running if the salesman tries to sell you something else. If you have a favorite carpet cleaning company, ask the owner what he/she would suggest for carpeting. As far as color, if you do not have pets, and a lot of traffic, I would suggest light colored carpet. Also, shoes should come off at the door.
