What are good ways to clean an old carpet?
I recently moved into a Townhouse that has a rug from the mid-80's. We will be getting a new one in the next year, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to clean it up. We had it professionally cleaned and it really did not do much.

Since you’re getting a new carpet next year, why don’t you save yourself a lot of trouble and just purchase some large-to-small cheap, area throw rugs to cover up the problem spots?
Or you can buy some nice area rugs to use now and later over the new carpet for high-traffic areas.
Since you’ve already had it professionally cleaned, I don’t see where putting anymore elbow grease into will make that much difference.
