We Found Little Tiny Black Worms In The Bathroom?

My dogs and cats have hookworm and tapeworm but were all just put on meds for them. The kittens sleep on this rug in the bathroom and when we lifted up the rug last night, there were little tiny black worms everywhere. I called the vet and they said all worms like hook and tape and round are white. What could be in my bathroom? I'm afraid they are everywhere hiding in the carpet and whatnot.
no vent they could be from.
yes they were crawling.
the rug is like a whiteish tan color.
i didn't bother to look for legs, i really dont think they did.
the only other bug problem is the worms on the cats and dogs but the vet said all those worms are white.
i live in MI.
now im hearing it might be flea larvae?

Your vet is right. Intestinal parasites are not pigmented so they tend to be white.

Flea larvae would also be white - and you shouldn’t be able to see them without a microscope. But if what you saw was little black unmoving specks, like ground pepper, that could be flea dirt. Flea dirt is really flea feces, and you can tell the difference between it and regular dirt by getting it wet and rubbing it on a white paper towel or tissue. Flea dirt makes red-brown smears from the blood content.

I don’t know what they are, but I suggest collecting some. Either scrape them into a container of alcohol or use clear tape (either packing tape or clear Scotch tape - don’t use the "magic" frosted-looking tape). Take them to your vet who can tell you if they are animal parasites. If they aren’t, take them to a local pest control expert, or entomology professor if you’re near a college.

I’m not sure exactly what kind of worm they are, but this happened to my boss’ dog. He was ill and when he threw up there were tons of little black worms wiggling around in the vomit. So it could be some kind of stomach parasite.

have you got a vent in your bathroom they could be falling from? were they moving? what color is your rug? did you happen to see if they had legs? do you have other bug problems any where else in your house? what part of the states are you from?

sorry for all the questions, but if you could add details with answers, i’d gladly edit my answer to help you determine what on earth they are :)

EDIT: thanks for adding on so quicky.
there’s a large number of things they could be.

1: mosquito larvae - like damp places, perhaps if your rug was a bit damp, it could’ve attraced them, but they are usually layed in water.

2: millipedes - like damp places, but they usually live outside in gardens or woods, and i think you’d've noticed the legs

3: it very well could be a flea larvae, as they’re transparent, but when they’re filled up after drinking blood, they’re a deep red/black. if they were small, they were most likely in stage one or two or their larvae state (their life span goes eggs - larvae 1 - larvae 2 - larvae 3 - pupae - adult)

i hope this has halped at least a bit, i’ll add on if i find anything else that fits your description.
