Water spill on silk rug plz help!?
I have read other answers and by them i THINK my rug is faux silk since it shedded for a pretty long time. I recently spilled water on it and now where the water spilled the fibres joined together and its rough compared to the other rug which is very soft. Any ideas how this can be helped? Also how can i determine for sure that the silk is faux and what is the difference in the qualities of faux and real silk rugs?

The difference between a real silk and a art silk (faux silk) rug is quite a bit, here is a good site with information on how to tell: http://www.rugrag.com/post/Fibers.aspx. The short way to tell is, how much did you pay for it? Was it expensive, at least $50/square foot? If yes, then it is probably silk. In order to fix your rug, go out an buy a brand-new brush, like the kind you would scrub a floor with. Brush the fibers of the carpet until they are soft again. It may take some elbow grease, but it should help a bunch. If you email me pictures of your rug, including a close-up of the back where the fringe meets the pile, I can give you an idea of what your rug is. ruglady@jahannandsons.com
Best of luck!
