First, start out by making the width of the carpet equal x.
Then, you know the length is 26 more than that.
Width: x
Length: 26 + x
So, the equation for perimiter of a rectangle is:
P = 2*Length + 2*Width
You know P, the length, and the width, so plug them into this equation:
2(26+x) + 2x = 216
Now, distribute the 2 to the (26 + x) term:
52 + 2x + 2x= 216
52 + 4x = 216
Now subtract 52 from each side of the equation:
4x = 164
Now just divide each side by 4 to find out the value of x
x=41
So x (width) is 41, and the length is 26 more than that:
41 + 26 = 67
Dimensions: 41 x 67
Hope this helps

Let x be the width
Length= x + 26
Perimeter = 2 ( x ) + 2 ( x + 26 ) = 216
4x + 52 = 216
4x = 164
x = 41 in. = width
length= 41 + 26 = 67 in.
Check: 41 + 41 + 67 + 67 = 216? Yup.

P= twice the width + twice the length =216 in.
The problem tells us that length (L) is 26 in. greater than the width (W), which implies the equation L=W+26
We can now substitute back into our original equation.
P=(2)(W)+2(W+26)=216
4W+52=216
W=41 in. so length is 41+26, or 67
Dimensions: 41 in. x 67 in.

W=width
L=length
perimeter=W+W=L=L
216=2*W+2*L
L=26+W
216=2*W+2*(26+W)
216=2*W+52+2*W
216=4*W+52
164=4*W
W=41
L=26+W
L=67
length=77, width=41

484in
you do 216×2=432 + 26×2=52 so then you add 432+52=484in. is the dimension of the carpet

so the variable we have is the width. the width is x and the length is x+26. we know that adding the length and width will give us perimeter. so x+x+x+26+x+26= 216 or 4x+52=216, solve for x, x=41,
remember width was x, and length x+26?
so now width = 26, and length 41+26= 67

So basically forget that its a Persian carpet, all u need to know from that information u just gave is that a rectangle has a perimeter or 216 inches.
Next you have to create a let statement, which is when u make variables like x and get them values. Here are the let statements for this problem:
let x= width of carpet
let x+26 = length of carpet
Since we did not have any information on the width, we set that as x, and since we were told what the length value is, but in terms of the width, then we make it in terms of x. It’s a little weird to understand but read it a few times and you should get it.
Now you just have to make the equation, which is just plugging in those values to the normal rectangle equation:
2l + 2w = P, where l=length, w=width, and P=perimeter.
Now plug in the above-stated values for l and w and the perimeter which was given in the problem and u get this:
2(x+26) + 2x = 216. now simplify
2x + 52 +2x = 216
4x + 52 = 216
4x= 164
x= 41
Now plug x into your let statements, so if x is the width than the width is 41 inches and if the length is x + 26, then the length is 41+26= 67 inches.
Hope this helped.

Hi Kenneth let’s see if I can help you:
1) The carpet is rectangular, right? It has four sides. The perimeter is the sum of all four sides. So if you were to take a piece of string and measure around the outside of the carpet it would be equal to 216 inches. Do you agree then that the perimeter is equal to WIDTH (bottom side) + LENGTH (right side) + WIDTH (top side) + LENGTH (left side)?
Therefore, PERIMETER = WIDTH + WIDTH + LENGTH + LENGTH
Which Equals to PERIMETER = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x LENGTH
So we can say that 216 = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x LENGTH
2) Okay, now, the length of the carpet is 26 more inches than the width, right? Writing an equation out of that:
LENGTH = WIDTH + 26
3) Now, use the formula we created above on number 2 to replace it with "Length" the first formula:
The first formula is: 216 = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x LENGTH
Replace "Length": 216 = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x (WIDTH + 26)
Now we can find the value of width!
216 = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x (WIDTH + 26)
216 = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x WIDTH + 52
216 - 52 = 2 x WIDTH + 2 x WIDTH
164 = 4 x WIDTH
164/4 = WIDTH
WIDTH = 41
4) OK! Now that you found the Width, find the Length by replacing the value of Width in the second formula:
LENGTH = WIDTH + 26
LENGTH = 41 + 26
LENGTH = 67
5) There you go! So, the Length is 67 inches, which is 26 inches more than the Width (41 inches), and your Perimeter is 216 since 41+41+67+67 = 216!
Hope that helps! Best of luck!
