My Cat will not poop in the litter box anymore?
We have had out kitty for about 6 months now and has been using the kitty litter box just fine. Now he will go pee in the litter box but will poop right out side of it. Especially on the bathroom rugs. How can we stop this?

Some cats decide that they don’t want to poop and pee in the same litter box for reasons only known to felines. I would suggest putting another litter box in the same area as the one you already have, that may help the behavior.
Another possibility is that your kitty finds the rug more comfortable for scratching on after pooping, did you recently change litters? If so you may want to go back to the old litter or switch around until you find one that you cat seems happy with.
Best of luck!

Have you tried emptying the litter box? That may help!

He may not like the smell of the box. Do you wash it thoroughly on a regular basis?
Might want to get a new litter box and see if he likes it better, or try a different type of litter.

First make sure there is no physical problem. A vet check is in order. Tell the vet what is going on so they know what to check for.
If no physical problem, then it could be that you have changed the litter to something he doesn’t like much. Try a different one. Or make sure the litter is not dirty. Cats HATE to be dirty and a nasty smelly litter box would not be very appealing to him.
It could also be that he is trying to get your attention - even negative attention is better than none. Try paying more attention to him.

He probably has a bladder infection, take him to the vet to get checked out. Usually a bladder infection will cause a cat not to use the litter box. Good Luck!

clean the litter box out at least once a day. change the litter once a week. cats do not like dirty boxes.

clean out the litter box and put in fresh litter. cats are notorious for being very fickle about how clean the litter box is. get a second litter box and keep them both clean.

My two year old sister did this a lot. She would pee in the toilet and then poop on the bathroom floor. We ended up just giving her treats every time she didn’t take a dump on the floor.
