Looking for “event” ideas for brothers pet store…be creative!?

My brother in law is opening a pet store, where everything sold is handmade by LOCAL people. This includes cages, bowls, aquarium decor, leashes, dog clothes, colars, dog treats ect. The only things not made locally are food supplies and medical supplies. The only dogs and cats available for adoption are from rescue organizations, and all pocket pets/reptiles are from reputable breeders that live IN town. He is very against puppy mills and over-breeding, and wants his pet store to be a haven, not a prison. His display cages are over-stocked with toys, carpeting (not wires, which I admire him greatly for) and all dogs/cats are taken home at closing. Either the rescue takes them, or he does.. to reduce the chance of theft and help the animals become more social.

Anyways, he decided to have "events" every thurs, fri and sat to help draw people in for a while. He's already decided (and booked) fridays as "adoption day" where various dog/cat/pocket pet rescues come out. But he's having trouble on thurs and saturdays. He was considering making Saturday a "kids night" and having hamster ball races, turtle races, pet costume contests and offering prizes to the winner (mainly pet supplies). What types of "events" would draw YOU in as a customer? He's looking for something unique, something that hasn't really been done a lot before.. so try to be creative! Thanks!

Backyard urban livestock day! Chickens, rabbits, and catfish.

I'm not joking- do an internet search on "urban chickens" they are all the rage.

A 100 gallon backyard goldfish pond can produce 25 pounds of live catfish meat per season.

You could have a group walk for your dogs.
Go see some places people might not know about.

Also, you could do a fancy dress thing, where they make their own clothes for the pets, and the winner gets a months supplt of food or something :P
