Is it poisonous for a dog to eat Aleve?

Yesterday I was looking for my bottle of Aleve everywhere. Never found it, but my boyfriend found it in the backyard that evening chewed up with pills all over the grass. Apparently my dog had gotten to it much earlier that day. She acted fine all day yesterday so we hoped she hadn't eaten any of the pills. She ate like normal drank like normal all day yesterday. Today I come home from school and see that her food bowl is still full at almost 2 p.m. when she is usually fed breakfast around 6 a.m. Then I realize she has thrown up twice all over my new rug in the living room. (Of course not on the tile, but exactly on the rug). I'm wondering if this is a result of her possibly eating some of the Aleve yesterday. She acts fine, doesn't seem to be in any type of distress.
By the way, I should have made this clear earlier, I don't know that she actually ate any of the pills. If she did it could not have been many because it looked like most of the bottle was still there and yes, of course we picked the pills up out of the yard.

She might go into kidney failure. There isn’t much you can do now. You can take her to have her tested and put on fluids, but it’s too late to do much other than wait it out. The drug’s name is naproxen. It is closely related to ibuprophen. Kidney failure would be the main problem or perhaps liver failure, but I would be more worried about kidney failure. I don’t think severe bleeding would be an issue this late after ingestion. You might call a vet and ask if there is anything he could do this late after ingestion.
    Good luck.

Aleve can adversly affect the stomache - like burning through the lining - did you pick up all the pills? I would be suprised that it would take so long for affects to show up - but call the vet NOW!

    Chances are she’s fine.
The Aleve would have gone thru her system much sooner than that,.. it metabolises faster in dogs than humans.
Just a coincidence that puking occurred.

I’m pretty sure Aleve is VERY poisonous. It has the same active ingredient as ibuprofin, I think?? If so, it can seriously damage the kidneys.

You need to call the vet ASAP, just to make sure. Your dog may end up needing a stomach pump or something.

    Call the vet now!!!!!

    *edit*
I looked it up and it’s definitely dangerous. The active ingredient in Aleve is Naproxen. It causes stomach ulcers, which can perforate. Depending on the size of your dog and how many she ate, she might be okay, but time is of the essence so I hope by now you’ve called the vet.

Take her to the vet just to be sure. She needs to get those pills out of her system.

It’s a form of tylenol. Tylenol is poisonous for dogs. Call the vet. It’s prob too late to do much and your dog is probably going to be fine but the vet can tell you for sure.

    Have her checked out!!!
P.S. I honestly don’t think it matters if the bloody rag was new or not!

"Is it poisonous"? Honey, it would be poisonous for YOU to consume more than the recommended dose. People use NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) to end their lives, and do so successfully.

Your dog is much smaller and has a different constitution. CONSULT YOUR VET. Why take any chances? The fact that your dog has puked is good, but it could have still damaged her internal organs.

Make sure you keep ALL medicines, cleaning products, beauty products out of the reach of your dog.

You seem more concerned about your new rug than your dog. Shame on you!

Your dog is more than likely fine but it’s always better to play it safe and see a vet. Keep a close eye on her and your Aleve. I’m not preaching but have a pet is like having a kid you just can’t leave things lying around that can cause them harm.

as long as your dog didn’t eat to many it should be fine, mostlikely she just chewed the bottle open , and they spilled out. pills don’t taste that great to dogs, so i’m sure didn’t eat more than 1 or 2.

Yes, it can cause the dog to go into renal failure. Please, contact your Vet and get your dog into the clinic ASAP.
