If one is removing old carpet & padding does it contain asbestos?
Carpet and padding was probably installed 20-30 years ago. Padding is deteriorated and stuck to floor. It crumbles and has to be scraped up. Could it contain asbestos and what danger is it to me? Someone else removed it while I was in the house with the ac on.Is it safe to just mop and wax floors or must I recarpet? I have allergies and don't care for carpet.

Your all set, there was no asbestos used in either carpet or padding.
Asbestos was banned in the mid 70s and completely fazed out by the early 80s anyway.
Padding is more of a petroleum based product. There will be dust and allergen particles kicked up so I would sweep, mop and also change the furnace filter since your ac fan goes through the furnace.. GL

I have heard of asbestos being used in floor tile from that era, but not carpet padding.
I did a quick search, and did not find anything on it, either.
You could have the padding tested, but I would be inclined to just mop and wax, and leave it at that.

No asbestos in carpet or padding. Just make sure there isn’t old tile or linoleum beneath it before you start scraping.
