I am entering a design contest and I don't know what to do?
I love to design things similar to red carpet, prom, or wedding dresses. But for the H&M Fresh Eye on Design Contest I don't know if I should do something more casual or stick with my regular style. Also should it be a little over the top? HelP?!?!?

I think over the top is better than overly simple. Go on youtube and type in fashion sketches or fashion drawings. Many people have submitted their ideas in videos and you should use some of their designs for inspiration! Good luck!

I’d go a little over the top but still make the design believeable. They might notice you more

well, h&m doesn’t really sell fancy dresses like for prom and stuff.
But stick to your regular style cause thats what will make you stand out from everyone else

the key would lie in the design contest itself, what does it ask for? Does it say anything about casual wear, or does it ask for formal or evening dress? and if you still don’t understand what they want, go with your normal style, it would probably be better to go with a style that you’re more familiar with for a contest, instead of just now trying to change it.

Do you want to be a professional designer when you grow up? You may be a grown up, but this is still the appropriate question to ask yourself as you do your design for this particular contest. Read the rules carefully … decide what they are looking for with this ‘Fresh Eye on Design’ contest, and then ‘design appropriately’ while still fitting your own design ‘theme’ … this is what the long time professional designers would do, and it’s what you should do if you ever want to be recognized as one yourself. So … it may be ‘more casual’ but still be a bit ‘over the top’ as long as that is ‘what you do regularly.’ You are not designing clothes for gardening in the back forty, but are trying to make something ‘fresh’ so I think a ‘bit over the top’ would be allowed, but not too much, since the economy is so ‘bad’ and more ‘conservative’ clothing might be called for.
