How do I remove a 3 day old carpet stain?

I spilt coffee on my beige carpet at home, I did my best to clean it at the time but I failed and I was wondering how to remove it? I'm slightly desperate as the stain looks hideous!

Try spraying white vinegar and lightly dabbing and brushing it out with a white cotton rag/cloth. Allow to dry between treatments. This process may take a few days before your carpet is restored to its former appearence.

Do you carpet clean regularly? Sounds silly, but if you don’t clean your carpet regularly you will notice that your coffee stain turns into a very bright spot on your carpet if you try to spot clean it. :-D

If you don’t have a carpet cleaner, you should try to borrow a friend’s or rent one (call around for best prices and then give a rental a once over to make sure that it won’t leave more filth on your carpet than it cleans off).

Don’t buy commercial carpet cleaning soaps. The soap leaves a residue on the carpet. Just fill it with boiling water with a half scoop of oxyclean and some vinegar. The whole thing will look like new again. It’s actually scary…I let my carpet go for months (kids, husband, cats…) and cleaned it with this mix…it was like squeegie-ing off mud from a window. *blush*

If the water isn’t boiling hot, the carpet won’t come out very clean. When we walk bare-foot on a carpet, oil secretions from our feet mount up and trap the grunge. Gross, I know. The hot water melts and cleans away the oils.
