How do i build a safe shelter for my cat and her new kittens that I can afford!?? (I only have 40 bucks!) lol?
My kittens must stay outside because we are trying to sell our house and my parents won't let them stay in.Is there something I can buy that is cheap, or something I can do at home, to allow the mother cat to get out and come in, but keep the kittens from leaving? And also keep out wild animals and dogs from around the neighborhood?I have to keep them close to the woods for shade(it's way too hot and they start panting if they are anywhere else besides te woods) I have a shelter for them(An animal crate with a pillow, and a door that the mother cat can push open and a bungee cord on it pulls the door slowly closed a lil [but still is open a crack] and a tarp is over it for weather, and it is raised up on two blocks but I still feel like they are not safe..)I live in a small home, all carpet, no basement or garage, or shed, and I cant put them on the porch cuz of my aggressive dog.I am not givin them to a sheltIer. (They are half-persians)I just need to make them a living space! But how?
And I am 14 years of age!! So I can't "GET A JOB!!!!!!!!!"
I am planning to raise the cats, and I will not be moving out for a while. They are half Persians and I am goin to take good care of them and my parents love um too, but they just cant come inside at this time. *its too hard to explain* I need to build them a TEMPERARY place they can stay with their mother until they are old enough to be given away or sold. PLEASE NO MORE ANSWERS ABOUT TAKING THEM TO A SHELTER!!! The woods are not a lot of woods, only a few trees with a few squirrels and raccoons, and they are on the edge of the woods, not in them, I just need info on how to BUILD a SAFE PLACE! Please??!? Thank You!
For all the IDIOTS out there answering this question..... : I AM GIVING THEM AWAY AND PEOPLE CAN GIVE THEN THE HEALTH THEY NEED WHEN TYE GET THEM! I am not giving them to a shelter becuz cats that they do not get rid of, u know what they do???? THEY KILL THEM!!!! N dont tell me they dont becuz I used to volunteer at one around here.... N I am not taking tose chances with my kittens!! I want to raise them and give them away to people I know will take care of them! Is that THIS hard to understand?????? OMG! The Question I Am Asking is: Please tell me how to make a shelter for my cat and her kittens. That is ALL want to know! And I do give a d***, 3cats, that's why I'm taking it into my own hands. The shelters aroun here just don't care... thye just want to get rid of them. If you lived around ere, you would see wut I mean... And thank you for those who arent half-retarded and gave me some really good ideas!

Here honey, here’s an answer. I can tell you love your kitties & you are doing the best you can. This is long, but please read it, ok. See if your dad, or an older brother or other family member or friend can help you with building this, because you really need two sets of hands. Get 2 x 4 lumber and some fencing at the hardware store. I’m not sure of the name of it, but ask them for the type of outdoor wire fencing that is heavier than chickenwire - it will have rectangular spaces, & is often used to fence in dogs, goats, etc. so its safer than chicken wire or screening, as even little dogs can tear through those very easily. Look up Cat Enclosures online for ideas. Check several websites until you get an idea of what can be done. You can probably make your cat a small enclosure that is 6 or 8 feet square by 4 or 8 feet tall. Taller would be better, as you could add a shelf or two - cats like being higher off the ground & it will be safer for them. Since the enclosure won’t attach to your house, remember you’ll need a door, so plan for hinges & latches or locks. Plan it all out on paper, measuring every thing out. You’ll need tools, like a hammer, which maybe your dad has. Nails or a staple gun. If you plan well, you may not need a saw & a hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes often will provide cut the lumber for free. Use 2" x 4" lumber to build the framework vertically & horizontally - you’ll need it to run along the ground to attach the fencing there. Fence it on top also so kitty can’t get out & add a tarp bungeed on over part of the top for rain protection. TBe sure to wire it closed well leaving no gaps, because if you do, kitty will push its head through & run off. This isn’t ideal, but it can work for awhile, but you have to think ahead concerning the move & cold weather & things like that. A cat carrier isn’t really an adequate shelter, especially when the weather will get colder, but temporarily it can work. Make sure there is plenty of water available & that the animals don’t get overheated. Please let your parents know the cat & kittens are important to you and that you need their help with this project. Money may be tight for you and for them, so you may need to let your parents know you are willing to give up some extras (like video rentals, or games, or eating out, etc,) in order to put that money toward helping the cats. Please try to get mama cat spayed rather than breeding kittens to sell. You really aren’t set up to breed or able to afford veterinary care and thats just not fair to the animals, ok.Also, I volunteer with animal rescue, and even purebred animals are very hard to place - we often haul them to adoption fairs for months before getting someone to take them, so my point is, you may not be able to sell them like you think you can - there just isn’t that much demand & more kittens than homes. If you don’t have much money for shots, spaying, etc., contact the SPCA or Humane Society in your area & ask about low cost clinics they may operate or know about. Be polite, be honest, tell them your age, your financial limitations, & that you need this & ask if they would work with you. Offer to help them in exchange for services - they may be able to let you do yardwork, clean cages or mop floors or something in exchange for vet care. Also, here’s an idea for a job that maybe you can do in your neighborhood even though you are only 14. I know a guy & he put up flyers & talked to neighbors & does peoples laundry for them. He makes pretty good money doing it too. Call a laundrymat that offers that service & see what they charge for wash & fold service in order to get an idea what you could charge for this. Have your customers just drop off the laundry - they can stuff it in pillowcases or wrap it up in a sheet, along w/ their laundry baskets, then you do it after school & at night & they can pick it up the next day. Lots of people need cleaning, yard work, petsitting, etc. Good Luck to you dear. PS Check want ads to see if anyone may be getting rid of a dog kennel in your area, sometimes people just want them gone, so might give you one or sell it cheap, if you’ll take it apart & haul it away. Keep in mind you’d need a means of transporting it though like a pick up truck, trailer, etc & someone to drive.

You must be a very young person because what you’re trying to do is silly. Cats can live for over 20 years. Are you going to keep them outside your home in a box that long? Giving them to a shelter is the best thing to do especially now while they are young and can be easily adopted. Kittens get adopted very quickly.
In a few weeks, they’ll get older and will be more difficult to place in a good home. You’re being irresponsible and immature by trying to build a temporary home for them in the woods. You are not helping them by doing that. Why can’t you understand that?? And if you’re planning to move and your parents don’t want the cats, what are you going to do? Are you going to leave them there in the woods?
GET ON THE PHONE AND CALL ANIMAL SERVICES AND HAVE THEM PICK UP THE KITTENS. BE RESPONSIBLE AND DO THE RIGHT THING.
Wait a minute, you refuse to give them to a shelter who can find proper homes for them but you are planning to keep them long enough until they can be sold or given away? Why not give them away now then? And do you honestly believe that people are going to pay you money for your cat when they can get them for very little money at any shelter and they come already spayed, have all the vaccinations, microchip, etc.
Also, most raccoons carry rabies and if one bites one of the cats, it will die. On top of that, if it rains outside the kittens will drown but before that, they will probably be eaten by ants, fleas and god knows what other creatures are crawling in your back yard. However, you don’t seem to give a damn so good luck to your cats. They’ll need it.

I’m not saying give them to the shelter, but pure breeds, mixed purebreeds, or any "mutt" cat can go into the shelter
;D

I hate to be harsh, but if you can’t afford a shelter for them then how are you going to afford to get them care if they need it and have them vaccinated, etc.? I think your best bet if they can’t be brought inside is to give them to a rescue or to a shelter….it doesn’t matter if they are half persian or not. Chances are that wild animals are going to get to them if they are left outside no matter what you put them in. Take your $40 and take momma to a low cost spay and neuter clinic that way there will be no more kitten problems.

Try to get the unusual material (eg. woods if you have an old cabinet or furniture, bricks or blocks - I used to collect from the construction site before). Or any unused items that can be fitted in.
My mom used to build such a one last time when my family and I adopted some birds. It stay longer and comfortable too.
Try to use the safe material. Don’t have the sharp broken edges. Be creative!

The best thing to probably do is find a large sized cardboard box and and it sounds like you’re in your late childhood years, preteen, or teen, so am I.
But you hould probably ask your mom or dad to cut the hole in the cardboard box big enough for momma to get and out of try putting them in a safe spot where there are trees, and about the whole to keep them from leaving
Put a a peice of bag or material to keep them from leaving becuase they won’t know what to do and momma can get out, if they are smarter than I think, Try something stronger but, not to strong so momma can get out
Good Luck!

buy a dog house and block the bottom but leave room for the mom to climb out.

Not to be a pain….. I would find new homes for them. Cat’s should not be outside. They are sitting ducks. and the kittens are worse then sitting ducks for any aggressive animal whether is be a dog or coon.
Good Luck!!

Sorry You’re Having Such A Hard Time With This Question… People Can Be Rude…
To Make A Small Shelter For Them You Can Use An Old Box, Preferably A Bigger One Like A Stove Box Or Fridge Box… Put A Few Small Holes To Allow For Air To Move In & Out, But Not Too Big That They Can Get Out Or Other Creatures Can Get In… Then Put A Tarp Over It… Make A Door Small Enough For The Mother To Get In, But Put It A Few Inches Above Thr Ground So The Kittens Can’t Get Out…
Good Luck Darling!!
