I’ve lived in my apartment for 16 years. The carpet is the original carpet, which was 10 years old when I moved in. This makes the carpet 26 years old! I fear rent increases. Should I offer to replace it myself?

In my bedroom, the carpet is very old and MUST GO! I ripped a corner up and there is a hardened substance, I’m not sure if it’s the padding that is under or the adhesive. I think the hardwood floors underneath are in good shape, proving we can get this hardened stuff up. [...]

took up the old carpet in my bathroom to reveal the ceramic tile underneath–however, after years of being glued down, there is a lot of yellowed, caked on glue. I have tried steel wool, stiff brushing, tile & grout cleaner–still can’t get all of it up.

I recently moved into a Townhouse that has a rug from the mid-80’s. We will be getting a new one in the next year, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to clean it up. We had it professionally cleaned and it really did not do much.
