Can you help me with this math problem?

I know.. anyone could probably do this.

"A rectangular Persian carpet has a perimeter of 176 inches. The length of the carpet is 22 inches more than the width. What are the dimensions of the carpet?"

-It's been a while since I had to do this crap. Be nice.

    perimeter just means distance around the edges, so

    length + length + width + width = 176

    since length is 22" more than width just put width + 22 in place of length to get

    width + 22 + width + 22 + width + width = 176

    or

    4* width + 44 = 176

    subtract 44 from both sides

    4*width = 132

    divide both sides by 4 to get

    width = 33

    I think you can get the length from here.

    Formula for perimeter:

    2 times length + 2 times width

    Let the width = x. This means that the length is 22 + x.

    Plug that into the equation:
    176 = 44 + 2x + 2x
    Simplify: 132 = 4x
    So x = 33

    Therefore, the width is 33 inches, and the length is 55 inches.

    width =

    x + (x+22) = 176 / 2

    x + x = 88 - 22

    2x = 66

    x = 33

    33 width
    55 length

    perimeter is 2l+2w=P
    if P=176 and l=(22+w)
    2(22+w)+2w=176
    44+4w=176
    4w=132
    w=33
    l=22+33=55
    the width of the carpet is 33 and the length is 55

    i was about to solve this but, the above seems right to me

    ok you need to solve it by drawing a rectangle and one one side put x then on the other side put x+22
    so your problem is: x+x+22=176
    minus 22 from both sides so you get : 2x=154
    divide both sides by 2: x=77
    therefore, the width is 77 and the length is 99
    hope this helps, good luck!

    l+w+l+w=perimeter
    l=(22+w)
    w=w
    44+2w+2+2=176
    2w=176-2-2-44
    2w=128
    w=128/2
    *w=64*
    l=22+64
    *l=86*
    Therefore the length is 86 inches and the width is 64 inches.
    I’m Sorry if it’s wrong, but i’m pretty sure this is how it’s done.

    Let the width be X, the length will be X+22. The perimeter will be the sum of 2 lengths
    and 2 widths, or 4X+44. If 4X+44=176, 4X = 132 X=33 so the carpet is 33×55

    Set up a rectangle. Opposite sides of the carpet have a value of x. The other pair have a value of x+22, since it’s 22 inches longer than x. Combine like terms to get 4x+44 = 176. Subtract 44 from both sides to get 132. Use a calculator to find x = 33. So the value of the one pair is each 33 inches, and the other pair is 33+22 inches, or 55 inches, each.

    EDIT: Wow. A lot of replies right there.

    set ur equation up like this: L=W+22 P=176
    2(W+22)+2W=176
    2W+44+2W=176
    4W=132
    W=33
    so L=55
