Anyone that own cats: Do cats shed their whiskers? Is that normal? I keep finding Lilly’s whiskers on my rug.?
I don't know if I should take her to the vet or not. She has been acting normal and she has been eating and drinking fine.

cats whiskers are called fibbrissae? its kinda hard to describe. not really hair, sorta like cartilage? but they use it to determine the width of stuff. Cats dont have a collarbone, and the whiskers tell them if they can get their head through something, they can get their whole body through it.
Also, cats will rub their cheeks on stuff to mark it as their terroritory, my guess is the whiskers come off when she rubs too hard.
I wouldnt worry too much, but keep an eye out and if things change, take her to the vet.

Yes, they shed their whiskers. Since they don’t have a lot of whiskers compared to fur, you don’t find that many. Whiskers grow back.

I’ve had my cat for six years now, and she occasionally sheds her whiskers. I don’t think it’s anything to be alarmed about. If you’re really worried, maybe you should ask her veterinarian about it.

Cats do shed whiskers every now and then, just like people shed hairs and eyelashes every now and then. The old whiskers that have died drop off and new ones will grow to replace them. The only time you should worry about it is if it’s excessive and you notice that she has almost no whiskers on her face. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard this, but when I was little, I was told that if you find one of your cat’s whiskers that has fallen off of its face, you’re supposed to make a wish and the wish will come true.

Cats often shed or break their whiskers off. Not to worry, it’s just thick hair and they do grow back.

She is most likely fine. Yes cats do shed their whiskers and sometimes many at a time can come out but they do soon grow back. In a month or twos time you will see that your cat will grow healthy long whiskers again and then the whole cycle will start again. However if the whiskers fail to grow back properly within 2-3 months, it may be worth getting your cat checked by a vet in case it is lacking any vitamins or minerals.

They don’t do it all that often. I put the ones I’ve found into a jar, it doesn’t get very many during the year. Maybe 3 or 4 whiskers. These are the ones I find on the floor or furniture, but there may have been others sucked up by the vacuum.
Just like us and our hair, cats do shed them over time.
